On February 22nd, 2017, LifeCenter Northwest hosted 15 nurses from the medical and surgical ICU’s at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett (PRMCE) at LCNW’s home office in Bellevue, WA for Donation Leaders Training. This interactive training is designed to empower unit leaders in the hospital to provide real-time education around donation and take a collaborative approach to improved donation processes.

This was the third time in four years that PRMCE staff have participated in this training, and over 30 nurses to date have committed to becoming donation leaders.  This training is a great opportunity for nurses to interact with  LCNW Hospital Development, Clinical and Donation Family Advocate staff who work alongside them and families during a case.

The first half of the day focused on donation basics, understanding why donation is important and how the donation process is supposed to work.  The RN’s walked away with a deeper understanding of how and why the donation process takes place, as well as, their role and the role of others on the unit.

The second half of the day was spent reviewing their current processes, sharing best practices, and creating ways to improve donation outcomes and hospital compliance.

The day concluded with a guest speaker, a donor family member, who shared his experience around donation and expressed how important donation was to him and his family in the moment and beyond.  The group also had a chance to hear from LCNW President and CEO, Kevin O’Connor, about the state of donation nationally.
